The U.S. Army Problem: Degrading Paint

Project

In early 2021, the US Army approached AmCoat Industrial seeking a solution for coating issues on their block buildings. The existing paints were deteriorating after just a couple of years and failed to provide an adequate moisture barrier against the elements.

The US Army needed a coating that would:

  1. Prevent water intrusion
  2. Last more than a couple of years
  3. Work on more than one type of surface

To address this, a test building was completed in collaboration with the Directorate of Public Works (DPW) as proof of concept. Impressed by the results, the Army quickly adopted Rhino Shield as their exterior coating of choice.

One notable project involved a 50+ year-old building with a history of moisture intrusion. After applying Rhino Shield, and following the wettest spring on record, the results were remarkable. The end users were so impressed that they immediately specified Rhino Shield for additional projects.

Rhino Shield's ceramic, elastomeric coatings are engineered to flex and move with the building, allowing moisture to escape while preventing intrusion. The inclusion of ceramic microspheres also helps reduce surface temperatures.

AmCoat Industrial is proud to support our troops by providing the highest-performing coatings in the industry. Our products enhance the life cycle sustainment of government buildings and reduce maintenance hours, ensuring durability and efficiency.
